ABOUT TURN THE TIDE

Turn The Tide was started in August 2011 when I came face to face with a 12 year old boy who was the head of his household in a small village in rural Malawi. I had visited lots of families, documented lots of poverty for my Masters thesis, but when I looked into the eyes of this one boy, all that theory went out the window.

Because really, what is theory without action? What is faith unless expressed through loving someone selflessly? Not loving a 'thing', but a someone. Because it's people God gave his all for.

Christopher had nursed both his parents until they had died; and for the last two years, had single-handedly been providing food, clothing, shelter and safety to his younger brother and sister.

You would have done what I did then: I took his thin hands in mine and promised him that from that moment on, I was making a promise to provide for his family. I would somehow provide food, money for school, and school supplies.

The Translator said "Today these children's lives have been turned around."
That was it. It clicked. My vision from years before. My passion to somehow help the poor.
That was how Turn The Tide started.

I am a teacher by trade, and moved from the U.K to South Africa so I could work in Africa and support Turn The Tide at the same time. Oh but it's not just me: hundreds have come along side.

Today, we support 39 children and 11 elderly widows with everything they need to survive. Initially, we just funded child-headed households. Recently, poor widows were attached to each family of children, to give the kids a caring adult in their lives who visits daily. It's a win-win and fills my heart to bursting.

Join us. The tide can be turned little bit by little bit, one family at a time.
